Hess Marketing Continues Commitment to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Woodbridge, N.J., February 28th, 2014

During the 2013 football season Philadelphia Eagles fans heard Hess donate $300 to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) each time the team made a field goal. With the help of CBS Radio - Philadelphia, Hess partnered with the Eagles to raise $6,900 with 23 successful field goals by the end of the season.

Joseph Sasala, Regional Sales Director, Steven Sooby, Senior Manager, and Tom Petrella, Manager were on hand to personally deliver the check to Neil Batiancila, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at CHOP. Hess Energy Marketing's donation this year will go towards quality care for GI (Gastrointestinal) patients.

While there, Neil also gave the Hess Energy Marketing team a glimpse at the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care, which is currently in development. to open in 2015. Upon its completion, it will be the most state-of-the-art facility for pediatric outpatient medicine.

CHOP was the nation’s first hospital devoted exclusively to caring for children, and remains one of the best in the country. Hess’ donation will help with the hospital’s mission for quality pediatric and family-centered care.

“We are deeply appreciative of the Hess Corporation’s generosity,” said Neil Batiancila, director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at CHOP. “The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia would not be the place it is today without the help of corporate philanthropy, and the company’s donation is going to make a real difference to the patients and families we serve.”

Hess Energy Marketing Helps Children from Underserved NJ
Communities Enjoy the Holidays

Secaucus, N.J., December 17, 2013

This holiday season Hess Energy Marketing (HEM), a subsidiary of Direct Energy Business, LLC, was a toy sponsor for the New Jersey Apartment Association (NJAA) Charitable Fund’s 16th annual Children’s Holiday Party, helping entertain more than 1,000 children from underserved communities across northern New Jersey. The NJAA Charitable Fund was founded with the mission of using the collective resources of the multi-family housing industry to give back to the community.

In addition to HEM’s donation for the children, four members from the Woodbridge office volunteered at the December 17, 2013 event, which took place at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Dan Diehl, Dan Kraus, Michelle DiBella and Julia Lyons-Smith helped hand out toys to the children and participated in various event activities. HEM also donated hundreds of Hess Toy Trucks from various years for the children.

This was the first year HEM sponsored and participated in the NJAA Charitable Fund’s Children’s Holiday Party, and due to the success of the event, HEM plans on being a toy sponsor next year as well. The event included over 1,000 children enjoying face painting, a DJ, life-sized cartoon characters, toys, holiday treats, and a visit from Santa Claus himself. Secaucus, New Jersey Mayor Michael Gonnelli also attended the event. Overall, HEM was proud to be connected with an association dedicated to helping thousands of school children across New Jersey enjoy the holiday.

Maryhaven Center of Hope’s Children’s Residential Program Receives
Donation from Hess Energy Marketing

Long Island, N.Y., December 11, 2013

Tim Connors, Manager, NY Metro Sales and Richard Locke, Senior Account Manager, NY Metro Region on behalf of the Hess Energy Marketing (HEM) presented Robin Dwyer, Executive Division Director, Residential & Educational Services and Chuck Vanek, Assistant Division Director, Residential Services a check in the amount of $4,510.00 for Maryhaven’s Children’s Residential Program on December 11, 2013.

This generous donation from HEM will be used to set up Skype communications between our residential students and their families. Since Maryhaven’s school population is largely non-verbal and on the autism spectrum, traditional phone calls are often ineffective in maintaining contact between children and their families. A task force is now at work on a proposal to add Skype stations, purchase tablets, and to secure the necessary internet access to get this all underway.

Martha Hammer, Marketing & Development for the Maryhaven Center of Hope, expressed her appreciation for Hess Energy Marketing’s fundraising efforts saying, “Maryhaven extends our many thanks to the Hess Energy Marketing on this extraordinary donation; you have truly made a difference in the lives of children with special needs.”

Hess Energy Marketing Fundraiser to Benefit Maryhaven Center of Hope

Long Island, N.Y., September 16, 2013

Each year, the Hess Energy Marketing team in New York organizes a fundraising effort to benefit a local children’s organization. This year’s beneficiary was Maryhaven Center of Hope, provider of both residential and day services for children with special needs. Maryhaven’s programs are designed to realize each child’s highest potential by encouraging all aspects of growth. You can read more about their services and philosophy and the wonderful work they do for children at their website.

To raise money for Maryhaven Center of Hope children’s program, Hess Energy Marketing held a series of raffles that featured Hess items including our iconic toy trucks, as well as other items. The raffles, with matching funds provided by Hess Energy Marketing, raised more than $4,000. All in all, it was a great effort that benefited children in need in keeping with Hess Energy Marketing’s ongoing commitment to community service.

Hess Energy at the 2013 NCHEA Conference

Hess Energy was a gold sponsor of the North Carolina Healthcare Engineers Association’s 61st Annual Conference and Exhibition, which took place from August 20-23 in Asheville, NC. Organized in 1952, the NCHEA is a not-for-profit association dedicated to serving and promoting the healthcare engineering profession. The conference focused on a number of issues important to engineers in health care, including facilities and project management, code compliance and energy usage.

At the conference, Hess Energy presented both a video and a white paper on how healthcare providers can reduce energy consumption and control expenses. Healthcare is an energy-intensive industry that uses 5.5% of the total energy consumption in the United States. Increasing the efficiency of this energy spend is vital to controlling the rising cost of health care. Depending on their needs, health care providers can save on energy by using one or more of these methods:

• Demand response
• Demand reduction
• Innovative supply contracts
• Group purchasing

To encourage visitors to our booth and focus attention on energy-related savings efforts, Hess conducted a mini toy truck drawing, won by Lisa Pagel, Maintenance Coordinator of Mission St. Joseph’s Health System, and William Lambert, Maintenance Manager of Cherokee Indian Hospital. A gift basket raffle produced one lucky winner, Arnold Clark of High Point Regional Health System.

WOODBRIDGE, N.J., JUNE 03, 2013

During the 2012 football season Philadelphia Eagles fans heard Hess donate $300 to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) each time the team made a field goal. With the help of CBS Radio - Philadelphia, Hess partnered with the Eagles to raise $9,600 with 32 successful field goals by the end of the season.

Deborah Lenny, Regional Sales Director - Mid Atlantic/SE, said she was excited to present the donation check to CHOP earlier this month.

“The donation is a terrific example of how Hess develops strong customer relationships and provides a strategic approach to meeting customer’s energy needs. We currently provide CHOP natural gas and electricity commodity supply through 2015. In addition, we are helping CHOP meet their renewable requirements with the installation of a 550KW solar field at its Mays Landing, N.J. facility.”

Giving Back to the Community by Promoting Energy Conservation

On April 22, 2013, Hess Energy partnered with businesses, hospitals and universities to celebrate Earth Day by sponsoring a day of green energy. For each of the eleven participants, Hess Energy purchased a combination of renewable energy credits (RECs) and verified emission reductions (VERs) sufficient to offset the natural gas and electricity consumed by those firms on Earth Day. Overall, this equated to nearly 174 cars being taken off the road.

Hess further supported participants’ efforts to “go green” through various acts such as providing notepads made of recycled paper to students at major universities, supplying green recyclable bags to a large NYC hospital, and distributing re-usable headbands at a Philadelphia gym.

Hess' both for Earth Day 2013 at Georgetown University co-staffed with the university's Utility Department, ready to provide students with information and giveaways to encourage more efficient use of energy and cleaner air.

One notable example is Hess’ partnership with Georgetown University. On April 19th, Hess participated in an annual campus tradition whereby all on-campus students simultaneously switch out their old light bulbs to new energy-efficient bulbs. In addition, at Hess’ booth promoting green living and sustainability on campus, students were given information on how to reduce their carbon footprint, along with promotional items to increase awareness. Thanks to Hess, the university was 100% carbon-neutral for energy supplied on Earth Day; at Georgetown alone, Hess provided carbon offsets equivalent to taking 51 cars off the road.

Hess has long been committed to helping its customers’ efforts at energy conservation. Providing energy solutions that improve the quality of the environment is a great way of ‘giving back’ and has the practical effect of making the air cleaner and contributing to public health.
